Disability can happen to anyone. When it happens to you or a relative, it is a mark of our civilised society that there is adequate support and help available. DLA is one of those essential supports, and the ‘Spartacus Report’ gives crucial information for the Government’s planned DLA reform.” Duncan Edwards, Director of Trabasack.
Today, a new report has been released which reveals in depth at how the Government has mislead and misinformed MPs and peers in regard to the hostility to disability benefit reform. The report finds shocking evidence to suggest that Parliament has only been given part of the view of the huge opposition to the Coalition’s planned reforms to Disability Living Allowance. These planned changes are likely to make life difficult if not impossible for thousands and this report is attempting to show the country how opposed the UK is to these changes and finds that this opposition has never before been released to the public by the Government.
The report was put together by a team of disabled individuals and their support networks, including all research, production and funding of the project. Its findings show how disabled people have been misrepresented by the Government. At Trabasack; we are strong supporters of its cause and believe everybody should have access to the report. There are some really shocking statistics included within the report, which we hope will be widely seen by the publicity generated around the launch of the report. We hope this knowledge becomes widespread across the country and everybody is made aware of its findings. Based on responses to the Government’s own consultation on its plans to reform Disability Living Allowance, the report is using data which the Coalition has kept under wraps.
Today on the day of the launch (9 Jan 2012), everybody involved and in support of the report are hoping to make as big an impact as possible, to wake people up and listen to the extent of Coalition Government’s misrepresentation and prejudice it is supporting and perpetuating. To get involved, please read the report and share it as widely as you can across your networks. If you use twitter, make sure you tweets include the hashtag #spartacusreport and crucially tweet the phrase ‘I support the #spartacusreport’.
Access to the official report by clicking this link: Responsible Reform and there is also a link to the press release written for it. This is an extremely important development in the fight to protect the people in our society who are sick and disabled and the louder we are, the harder we become to ignore.
